Maybe not “nearly every record ever made”.

Whenever I see someone playing a disc on tv — and now it seems in comics too — they have the lid up. In my very long experience of listening to records, it’s always best with the lid down, hiding the surface noise from the disc (even audible to my deaf old lug ‘oles). It’s even worse with a wind-up 78 player.

If you don’t want to listen to Foghat there’s always Canned Heat!

I can’t believe he kept a Foghat LP for 50 years… what a waste of good recyclable vinyl… :D We had so much good music in the 70’s. Why THAT?

I’m with the kid, love to listen to music on the iphone while I am hiking in the middle of nowhere, especially to my own homemade playlists. Linda and Nancy and Melissa with me in the mountains.

It would serve the boy good to listen to Foghat! (Especially ’Chateau Lafitte ’59 Boogie").

I listen to a lot of my old favorites on YouTube but EVERYTHING isn’t there. I loved record albums as a teen because if you were crushing on a particular singer you got a huge pic of him on the front of the album. I was disappointed when cassettes came out because the picture was smaller. Today’s kids will never know how much fun it was to lay on my bed gazing at the pic of a certain singer as I listened to the album.

How about some Deep Purple?

Buying new media costs money, Junior. Go get a job and tell me whether you want to buy a record twice.

Oh, wait, Junior’s generation is all about giving billionaire Taylor Swift more money by re-buying her nearly identical re-issue so that she can get money that was originally given to The Man. (Despite which, billionaire). So never mind.

I agree with Jr., which is why I’m selling my whole record collection, which long ago was replaced by Pandora. Foghat, what’s that? Good jazz from 100 years ago to yesterday is my preference.

No, it doesn’t sound “great”. It sounds hissy and poppy and scratchy and wowy and fluttery and generally crap. I’ll take my Apple lossless any day of the week over hipster vinyl garbage.

Harsh! Kid doesn’t appreciate good music. Looks like dad has the Fool For The City Album in hand, a great album. Almost 50 years after its release, Foghat Live is still my favorite album.

The advantage of an old vinyl over actual recording is the range. Modern records cut off the highest and lowest ranges. With a vinyl you have it all.

The wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner. The bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher. The competent drum work of Don Brewer?

I also take pictures and have them on my computer, but I make prints of those I don’t ever want to lose!
