Nothing but immigrants in my ancestry – how ’bout yours?

I’ve met a person from the deep south who possibly DOES have some original people in his ancestry… but whose patronymic is very very European. He’s utterly white by appearance and vocabulary. He absolutely knows that he and his family have in the USA* since time began. I didn’t keep track of him and it was a long time back but if he’s still extant I’d give odds better than 99% that he now wears a MAGA hat.

*  Yes, he’s also convinced that this land has always been and always will be known as the United States of America. We didn’t talk about whether his people cohabited with dinosaurs, but I’d be surprised if he didn’t know they did. He’s big on “knowing”.

Immigrants, after settling in, are just as insular as more established U.S. citizens and carry their prejudices against those not of their nationalities, religion, etc.

Hit the nail on the head with this one.

We are a world mostly consisting of immigrants. It’s just a matter of how far we look back into history. Modern humans have been migrating from one place to another for hundreds of thousands of years. The vast majority of people no longer live where their most ancient ancestors once lived, which is thought to be in Africa.

We should deport them all to Russia, they love and support it so much, give em a taste of what it’s like to really live in a sh@$hole country where they will actually have no freedom!

There’s the whole movement to completely disregard science and go with whatever “makes sense” to me. I predict a whole bunch of people dying unnecessarily.

Great Grandpa came in through an open border!!! My ancestors did too. But tall those folks were “legal”.

My family and my wife’s family all came from Europe. A very interesting book: Powers and Thrones by Dan Jones. He looks at the history of the Middle Ages and how climate change and immigration shaped our world. People should read it and learn.

There some interesting new work out on the modern man/Neanderthal interactions in which simultaneous occupation of a small area has both modern human and Neanderthal artifacts. The authors of this work claim it suggests that interactions between the two were short in time and disastrous for the Neanderthals. IOW, we’ve been migrating and displacing earlier populations for a very long time.

Does it take three generations? Nikki Haley is pulling up the ladder and building the wall and she is in the Grandpa slot.

As an enrolled tribal member of a federally recognized tribe, I wouldn’t have to go too far to go back to where I came from. Not sure that would apply to Mr. Red Hat in this toon?

There was once a time in the USA when the near unanimity of people on this continent granted full US citizenship were either male Caucasian EuroChristian immigrants (females were citizens, but did not have the same rights as males eg could not vote or have a bank account) or sons of same, and who were married only to female Caucasian EuroChristian immigrants or daughters of same.

And so everybody back then was a Caucasian Christian who knew (ed.: believed) that America is a Christian nation founded by God(sic) Himself(sic), and patriarchal Caucasian Christian societal domination was understood by EVERYBODY as the way things ARE and ARE MEANT TO BE!!!!!

Then along came public schools, and librul indoctrination, and “free thinking”, and thus implicit permission to be disobedient to evangelical interpretation of Biblical scriptural literalism (evangelicals have an out for verses which are demonstrably not literally even possible), and Christian societal authority.

Today’s GOP Christian Nationalism (totalitarianism) movement will free the societal deluded from notions of equality among ethnicities and genders (remember: Caucasian Christian Patriarchy is the whole reason why God founded the Christian United States for in the first place), and it will restore obedience to whatever/everything these believers say is what ought to be! — er, that is to say,the Christian Nationalist (totalitarianism) movement will restore God(sic) and His(sic) Bible to their rightful preeminent (above the US Constitution in instances where the two have conflict) societal position.

The rest of you: either convert, stfu, or get the H e l l back to where you (or your grandparents, or your great-grands, or great-great-grands, or great-great-great-great etc. grands) came from. Go by yourselves, or be shipped out following the 2024 Great USA Evangelical Christian Reformation.

And remember: FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!

This is what I keep wondering, aside from those with Native ancestors, we’re all immigrants or the children of immigrants. Have they all forgotten?
