A diary doesn’t necessarily have to contain secrets. Just writing down the day to day happenings can be fun and help you sort your own thoughts. Years later you will have forgotten most of what you wrote down and it nice to read about those happenings again. Memory is a vivid thing but often it needs a reminder to really get going. In a diary you can read about things you did with friends you may have lost touch with by now, with relatives that may have already died and your kids that are now grown and have lives of their own. About vacations you took, people you’ve met and so on. Reading a 20 year old diary is an incredible blast from the past and well worth the ‘work’ put into it.

I kept a diary as a kid “just in case I become famous and people wanted to see what a famous person was like as a kid.” Recently I re-read it and couldn’t help wonder what the heck was I thinking? I’m just glad I never kept in online for the whole world to see.

Wow! All this from a half (?) hour of class monitoring. Well,it’s been said that if you want to learn someone’s true character, give them some authority.
