a great show about that at the MOMA in new york, 100 years of childhood. it’s that recent. the first playground in the US opened a little over 100 years ago in chicago.
I remember watching this history channel show talking about how Halloween wasn’t for kids at first, it was only for adults. It wasn’t until our servicemen came back from WWII that the focus shifted to the kids having fun. What’s sad is that very few counties allow their children to have childhoods.

On the other hand, too many adults have trouble letting their kids grow up in this country. There needs to be a balance.
