Harriet Tubman served in the Union Army, albeit as a spy and scout.

Great Grandmother Cohen traces her family back to the beard maker from Life of Brian.

From what I’ve read, women did serve, although they hid their sexuality to do so…

I saw an article yesterday about fake beards for women, but there were not for the face

Pratchet’s Monstrous Regiment comes to mind. But seriously — didn’t we all have to read about Deborah Sampson back in second grade? Or look up Dr James Barry (Margaret Ann Bulkley) — an early 19th C military surgeon who was the first doctor to perform a c section where both mother and baby survived. I’ve read about so many more, I’ve forgotten the details.

Reminds me of the hilariously absurd denouement in Terry Pratchett’s “Monstrous Regiment”.
