My first cat “Tom” (the original, had a “Jr” later) liked to sleep on my running shoes (back when I did those things)…not sure if he was suicidal or just being a cat.

Just make sure that you give it back to grandma to wear so she can get her scent back onto the piece.
I will lay a t-shirt that I have worn for the day down on the carpet and my cat will come up, sniff it, curl up on it and go to sleep.
