Here in Italy we have prominent politicians who haven’t read a book in years. And they are proud of it.

I read The Swiss Family Robinson and Little Women many times when I was younger.

If you keep reading that, it can really become a hobbit.

I read The Hobbit and The LOTR 13 times. The 14th time, it just wasn’t that much fun any more.

I am firmly of the opinion that some books are like fine wine. They are to be savored, and this on more than one occasion!

Might I suggest to Brutus to read the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn books of Tad Williams? Very well written, also a quest, war and a dragon no less. As well as elf-like creatures, trolls and giants.

In a way I agree with Brutus. Just because it’s on the best seller list it doesn’t mean you’ll enjoy it. I found that out the hard way when I read “The Shipping News”

A good book is always worth re-reading.

There’s also a chance that you will.

I read a lot, and the Hobbit is one that I just couldn’t get through, and I rarely quit a book once started.

Sometimes easier to live in a fantasy world than looking out at the real.

Poor Brutus. He may be in a reading rut, but it is his reading rut.

He liked the Hobbit? I only read it after enjoying LoTR and I wanted to go full circle. But attempting to read it first didn’t work for me.

Try The Silmarillion.

There is some logic to that…….

Nothing wrong with reading the same book more than once or watching the same movie more than once. I have read the Harry Potter series on multiple occasions and l still can get immeshed in the story and still pick up on “new” details that l have missed on previous readings. Read on my friend, your quest and adventures are awaiting…..

Brutus, I know exactly how you feel, man. I’ve reread many books in my life, and will continue to do so.

I’m that way with movies and a TV series. I’m doing STNG right now, for the upteenth time.

I read LOTR every year. I still notice things that I didn’t before, plus I seem to be understanding Gandalf more and more…:-)

I’m at the point where I will rewatch older netflix movies & series instead of their new stuff, which sucks.

I like Brutus’s logic.

Brutus’ sense of adventure must be great on vacations. Do they always go to the same place?

Ah, Brutus logic, I’ll start worrying when it makes sense.

Given the way Brutus’s life goes I totally get why he likes books (probably movies too) that he knows the endings of!

Some books are worth re-reading; maybe a newbie thrown in for flavor!

For anyone interested, an absolutely amazing series is “The Kent Chronicles,” by John Jakes.I first found that in 1977, and have read them probably 10 times. They start pre-American Revolution, in France, and follow a young man to America, and then, follow his family line through those tumultuous years, ending in about 1910.

I have read Terry Brooks’ Shannara novels several times over.

Can’t say I disagree with Brutus. Time is valuable and there’s no reason to spend it reading something you might end up not liking,

Take a chance on something new, Brutus! I do enjoy rereading a favorite book, but the older I get, the less I do it. Too many books, too little time.
