That was “Hello Kitty”.
From Wiki:
Hello Kitty (Harō Kiti?), is a fictional character produced by the Japanese company Sanrio. Designed by Ikuko Shimizu, the first product, a vinyl coin purse, was introduced in Japan in 1974, and in the United States in 1976.
This line of products was aimed at 10-14 year old girls.
Not only that, but do you remember that Lio never talks? None of the characters in this strip do.
The first places in the US got “”Touch Tone” service in the mid 1960’s, the phone company charged extra for it back then. We did not get it in the greater Los Angeles area until the late 1960’s, Beverly Hills was the first place to get it as I recall. Pacific Telephone stopped charging extra for “Touch Tone” around 1990. Corrections invited.

What is that unusual device he’s using to call her with? I know it’s not a phone ‘cause the buttons aren’t arranged in a rectangle.

He’s in the mood to make catcalls.

When I was growing up in the 80s we had push button and rotary phones, the rotary phones were always more fun to use.

Is this the 1st time this strip has had dialogue?

I keep receiving this as a featured comic. Is this the only one that is considered featured.
It is awful and I am tired of receiving this comic.
zipporah about 15 years ago
If I need to receive a comic that is not on my list, please send me another one.

Aww! Two of my favorite characters in the same comic strip. Maybe Lio will prank some other comic strip characters in the near future.
