You should always try to have six months of salary put away for such a time. However who does? Maybe six weeks? When it rains it pours.

When I got laid off after 33 years it was the first time I ever really noticed how expensive going to work really is. Between a good severance package and several months of state unemployment, I could have gone four years with no income.

Now I’m retired and I want to express my sincere gratitude to all you hard-working tax-payers who will be supporting me for the next 30-40 years.

Many people live paycheck to paycheck and have very little left over to sock away. I hope Wally and Joan are able to figure something out.

Anyone here read “Retail”? I wish that one was featured here.

I love Retail. After the paper I used to read dropped it I had to search everywhere for it. Finally found the “right” Retail after about 10 searches. Had the same problem with Cul-de-sac, not anymore! :-)

Does a rainy day fund work during a money drought.

“Retail” can be found on the King Features’ site, www.dailyink.com. I love it, too.

I had salary put away. It didn’t provide nearly enough money to see me through being laid off, having a heart attack, then following that up with three years of severe clinical depression. I lost everything that I owned, pretty much, and my teeth, to boot. It’s been struggle enough to keep my head above water at all, let alone rebuilding the reserve.

To farren; my sincere sympathies… So many people are going thru such hard times, and I almost can’t bear to read about it. I am thankful every day that I live in Canada, where I mostly don’t have to worry about paying for medical care (unless I need something that the government doesn’t cover, sigh…).

Is this the same “Retail” you guys are talking about? http://www.seattlepi.com/fun/retail.asp

I have 6 months stashed away but I’d like to have a year of expenses saved up, just in case.

Retail is an awesome comic. The cartoonist started a new strip called “Gill” which is just as good if not better. http://www.gillcomic.com

I second the sympathies, Farren. You must have lots of fun holding on to health insurance. One of my kids is dealing with clinical depression and when a job ends it’s real a battle to keep her insured until she finds another. Best wishes.
