When we were kids my neighbor used to get so excited about the ice cream truck. One day he ran home to get money from his mother and ended up breaking glass in the screen door because he couldn’t get in.
I remember the ice cream trucks from way back when. There was one that parked by the elementary school when the kids were heading home. I’m not sure they could do that anymore!
In the 50s, it was a light green open top two seat cab in the shape of a low pick up truck with a bed cover. There were small doors around the bed where the driver, dressed in white suit and hat with a black bow-tie, could remove your favorite Popsicle brand treat.
I remember them in the late ’60’s and early 70’s. I used to love a pop with banana ice cream, a cherry ice center and covered in chocolate called a “cherry bomb”. And, of course, “Mr. Softee”, the soft serve ice cream like Carvel. (my all time fave)
