Let’s see, republicans were against ANY efforts to deal scientifically with the disease, and were also actively against education which taught anything that was not in the republican doctrine.

    Not to worry, Bok.

It’ll be gone in April, when the weather warms up.

    .

And remember, “I don’t take responsibility for ANY of it!!”

Too bad Bok doesn’t know the difference between breath and breathe. I wonder if he could get it straight before he breathes his last breath.

They can read, they just don’t understand what they’ve read. They don’t have the vocabulary they need. Partly because they were never read TOO.

State legislatures don’t allocate money for books any more, especially in RED states, Lisa. It’s been over ten years since we had funds to buy books. Hard to teach them to read, without books.

This isn’t about Covid. It’s about YOU trying to tell ME how to teach.

So what is the solution, Baghdad Bok? TFG so thoroughly screwed up the response and current Republicans are against any meaningful education, it’ll take a long time to address the fallout.

This is ridiculous; I was reading before I entered kindergarten, but that was at a time when television didn’t yet exist, nor smartphones or computers. So books were the best way to have exotic “adventures” except perhaps once a week at the movies. The Jungle Books were a favourite, and far better than anything Disney sugar coated. My parents read to me as a kid and that’s how I began reading – without formal instruction. But books like Babar with simple texts got me started. Later on I also had a teacher who, every day for the first 15 minutes of class, read to is from Charlotte’s Web. We were 12 years old and the experience got us used to letting our imaginations run rampant while being read to. I’m sure those 15 minutes a day got kids into the habit of looking for wonder through books better than anything else could have…You want your kids to read better? Only 4 hours of television per WEEK. No smartphones until they are 16 years old. If you want a kid to be able to contact you in case of need, a cellphone works very well…one without a screen or access to the Web. Then all the money saved on getting a smartphone can be used to fill the kid’s bedroom with books.

With the entire teacher’s union united against having to actually go back to work and teach them, who’s surprised that kids can’t read?

Nothing new. There was a best selling book in 1961-“What Ivan knows that Johnny Doesn’t” that exposed the sad shape of American education by comparing reading/math skills of American/Soviet 4th graders.

A win.. win for republicans. A new generation of kids that only get selected news from the media.. and a bunch of old codgers that pass on their inheritance.
