@$$#! the auto manufacturers, ANandy… I’m glad to have a president who is WISE about mass transit!

Under Reagan and Bush I lost local, then regional airline connections. Trains went bye bye. Bus lines were canceled. I live in a remote area, and now anyone older who can’t drive is now shafted. We used to be connected. The only total BOZO was Bush! Same for CAFE standards that could easily have been raised over fifteen years ago. NOTE: last year American cars by some miracle started almost doubling fuel efficiency, IN THE SAME CHASSIS! Mass transit and fewer cars, with higher mileage is the only answer, and anathema to oil companies.

If we had a real high-speed train from Boston to New York, like the TGV from London to Paris and Brussels, you could go from downtown Boston (South Station) to downtown Manhattan (Penn Station) in ONE HOUR. That’s shorter than a fair number of daily commutes in the Northeast Corridor. And about 90% of those gawdawful shuttles – which run about 45% on-time out of LaGuardia – would disappear, because it would be faster to take the train! No foolin’ - assuming at least 30 minutes to get to and from each airport (more like 45 in NYC), an hour in security, and the 45 minute flight, it’s about three and a half hours to fly. Trouble is that they need to replace the track, and that is a logistical nightmare. I keep hoping, though…

Considering population dispersal, large portions of the country are ill suited for mass transit. The south, southwest and midwest populations of the country are so scattered from population centers that mass transit systems are not feasable. The new vehicle standards are going to negatiely impact my wallet. But, lots of things Obama does are going to negatively impact my wallet (sigh). I do not regret voting for him, though.
