That would be fair. But not in a good direction. You know what would be fair? If you kill somebody, you automatically get a trial juried by the local citizens to see if THEY think it was a justified killing.
That and body cams. And the other “fair” thing: If you the cop turn off the body cam, you had BETTER be entering (the restroom). And if the next frame isn’t just outside that spot, you get a downcheck.
Mr. Rall you didn’t get the ethnicity of the victim correct. The vast majority of Black murders are Black on Black crimes. Sadly no one seems to care about those deaths, except the immediate families.
This would work if the killer was female and the victim male since there is so much violent crime against women. “I thought he was going to rape me so I killed him.” Check out the statistics of women behind bars for killing their abusers. They also get longer sentences than men who killed their wives/girlfriends/exes. But all you’ve done is buy into the ‘scary black man’ myth.
If we use lame arguments like that, we may as well shut down the court systems and jails because “justice” will be decided on the streets by people with the most guns and ammo…
I’m with Rall on this one: nobody deserves to use lame arguments like that to justify and avoid the consequences of their actions.
End qualified immunity, disarm the majority of cops & put the ones who carry guns go through rigorous training, with severe consequences for the slightest breach of policy.
I don’t think we’re ever going to reform human nature to the point where some people won’t use violence that needs an armed response, but it should be reserved for active shooters & hostage situations.

As people feel increasingly disconnected from government, violence directed towards agents of government (police) have been on the rise.

You can… but your lawyer does not have the same “connections” as the ones hired by the police department.

The “stand your ground” defence in Florida comes pretty close. And now you can “unintentionally” run over protestors and get away with it!

Don’t forget, you could murder kids and get away with it too!

Body cams on every cop, turned on every minute they’re on duty. Now, could we get back to this paper ballots discussion?

The cops have been enabled by us to become a different species.
