To some, all form of international cooperation is a surrender but would WW2 have been won if the US hadn’t cooperated with other nations, including soviet Russia and French “surrender monkeys” of the Resistance? AIDS doesn’t stop at borders, Global Warming doesn’t stop at borders, Terrorism, Recession don’t stop a borders so we need solutions that reach beyond them. “United we Stand” applies to the entire World today. We’re all in this together so I suggest you get over your pride.

there are far too many facts to list that show the New World Order is well in play and not just theory. as far as coming together, thats all fine and good, howeverthe path of working together for all should not crush the rights of the individual trying to make things better for the collective. “Don’t Tred On Me” in my opinon is the over all cry of the Constitution. nothing will back my pride down. i love my country but i dispise what has happened to its government over the last 100 years.

There’s a lot of damage to be repaired.

The world is celebrating our return to sanity.

For the first time in a long time, I’m proud to live here. I know it’s just an election and we haven’t solved any problems yet. There’s a lot of work to be done before we do. But when I saw the hope and excitement in people’s eyes on Tuesday night, I felt that the people are finally ready to try to make a difference, they’re hungry for change, and I feel that Obama is the man who can start us down that path. I just hope that the people understand that this was the easy part, we still have a long way to go…

Vicariousviper, I don’t really know anything about this “New World Order” you’re talking about, but I think there’s a big difference between working together to help all and crushing your individual rights. I believe very strongly in our rights as individuals. (For example, I’m not sure how I personally feel about abortion or gay marriage, but I’m bleeep sure that the government shouldn’t tell me how to feel about it.) I don’t want to take anything away from you. But I think this country has enough wealth (not just in money, but in brainpower, technology, good will, etc) to be able to help the people that need it, both at home and abroad. Not to steal anything from Obama’s speech, but if this country has proven anything during its history, it’s if there’s a will, there’s a way!

Sort of took a hiatus.

I’ve had calls and emails from colleagues and clients all over the world giving their congratulations. One French columnist wrote in Le Monde, “no column today. Even more than after 9/11, we are all Americans.” A German colleague and friend has put an Obama picture up as his wallpaper on his computer and posted it in his office as well.

The “one world” nonsense the Birchers peddle is not what we are talking about. It’s about America being the standard to which the rest of the world aspires, instead of the leader in torture, preemptive wars, wiretapping, and dishonesty. I’ve never met someone outside the country who thought America or Americans were bad – but they simply did not understand how someone like Dubya could get elected.

Years ago, a Brit in a workshop I was running said he had named his son “Martin” after hearing MLK’s “I have a dream” speech. I remember thinking how few white Americans would probably do what this middle-class white Englishman did. I wonder what he thinks today!

Eh! For the tin foil hat croud, any form of international relations besides war is a menace to independence. They must be thinking that too many foreingers like Obama for him to be good for america.

Corosive, have you ever been outside of the country? Because that’s not the impression I get when I travel.

There are a lot of people out there. There are plenty who don’t like the US, but to claim “everyone” is about the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard.

There is one thing, and one thing only, which can be said to be true about EVERY person on Earth: they are human. After that, no two people are the same. Assuming otherwise is wrong and it’s dangerous.

Not everyone hates the US, of course. I’m talking about that paranoid conservative minority who thinks it’s America against the World, or that the UN is the Beast of the Apocalypse. Not all conservatives are like that, though (thank God!).

forgive me CF. i tend to play devils advocate at times. i know that many refuse to think that the Way we should follow is not the road to the left or to the right but the path of open heart. i think that the Con. was written by a bunch of guys who had good intentions breaking free from England and who knew that before long people would forget what it is like to live under tyranny. i take every issue individually and claim no party. oh and remember our great nation has no wealth, it has a lot of debt. a whole lot of debt. there happens to be a number of wealthy people who live here, who made their wealth here. if you really belive in individual rights they should keep their wealth.”No taxation without representation” At 18, when my classmates were going to start their college tuition debt enrollment or drain their parents for school, I left home to carve my own way. i want nothing from no one. yet i dont want anyone to take what i make to give to someone else,deserving or not. i give happily whenever i can, but i dont need Uncle Sam doing it for me.

My compliments to hintzy. Taking responsibility for mistakes and making amends is the only way to have an intelligent and respectful dialogue. To answer the question: The US has been “going it alone” since Iraq. In contrast with Bush I’s remarkable alliance for Gulf War I, Bush II alienated most of the world, so that we had to bribe countries to get “allies.” When it started to go bad, Bush tried to dump it on the UN. Bush and Cheney have made it plain that they didn’t think they needed to consult with anyone on anything, and that regardless of our behavior, we had the right to chastise anyone else. Obama has a considerably more refined sense of our place in the world, having lived in more of it!

Wouldn’t that be Kuait? Or maybe you forgot the Iraq invasion.
