On Friday, Joe politely asked her to send the Fax “Just the Fax, ma’am.”

Now that I am working from home I need to go out and price Telex machines. Better yet, check Amazon, I can have one delivered. I wonder if they have Telex cards for my computer.

Seems clear from the comments that Telex and fax are not the same, so a bad pun to begin with. But it fits with the old-style dial phone and file cabinet.

    It’s not a dial telephone but a push-button phone.

Used to work for a small (and cash-strapped) government contractor company that had a main office hundreds of miles away from DC, and a small office in DC “to provide direct daily contact with our customers”… we would create all of our project proposals in the main office, then spend a lot of extra money to ship big boxes of thick binders overnight…

I suggested that we could save time and money by using our existing network to electronically send the proposal material to the DC office, where workers there could create those thick binders and walk them over to the customer…

Company management were appalled. Apparently the DC office was only for wining and dining potential customers – not to do any actual work…

A harpsichord virtuoso was on tour in a distant city when he realized he had left his music at home, so he called his wife and asked her to send it to his hotel’s telefacsimile machine. As he waited, the Bach piece came … the Handel piece came … the Vivaldi piece came … He waited some more, for the Mozart piece. It didn’t come. He waited some more. No Mozart. Finally he called his wife again and asked why she hadn’t sent the Mozart. “Well, my Daddy always said, ‘If it ain’t Baroque, don’t fax it.”
