Johnnypar - I’ve seen women, when they dive into cold water, as soon as their fingers touch the frigid stuff - do a hand-walk cross to the opposite side of the pool - and yell great obscenities at the guy who told them “Aww, Honey, it’s WARM!” (Thanks to Bill Cosby for the “bit”!)

You never told your older sister the water was great?

Almost had fun. Alix sure is having a blast. Never seen someone come up so fast. Summer will soon be over, fall is coming with the holidays, and the year will be over.

Val you should’ve known better than to take Alix’s word for it. Next time test it with your hand.

Test it with your toe. Hands can handle a wider range of temperatures without complaint. (Or at least mine do.)

I’ve always thought it was better to jump into cold water anyways, rather than “tiptoeing” in.

Poor Val - she needs to remember the vast gulf between childhood tolerances and adult sensitivities - things are colder and they’re hotter the older you get, definitely.

Hot day in July, 1979 at 8000’ up Uraca Mesa. Pond. Skinny dipping. Approached pond at high rate of speed (dead run) trying to be first in. Discovered pond was fed by an underground spring and was a pleasant 43 F.

Did my very best to walk on water to the far side.

Only made it 3/4 across (about 40 feet, into 12’ of water).

Did my very best to convince everyone else that “It’s great, dive on in”.

I am sooooo bad with cold water!!! lol!!!

Sgt. Angua said [lots of incisive stuff] …In fact, parents can try and counteract that all the time and still probably wont result in a net positive impact given all the other sources of stereotype that their child encounters.

But one can at least hope that during the child’s early years, clued-in parents can wield a far greater influence than than that of outside sources; and hope further that this early foundation will withstand at least some of the later bombardment.

Miseri, I had a similar experience, 04 July, 1976 on Lake Michigan up aways from Chicago. Air temperature 100F, lake temp 67F. I did not attempt to walk across Lake Michigan however. I did resemble the old NesTea “ahhhhhhhhhh” commercials wherein folks came flying back out of the pool as soon as they hit the water’s surface.
