And what choice to we have other than Biden? Certainly not Il Douche. So then what? Yes, we do need to get out from under the yoke of corporate feudal rule, but it’s about more than the presidency. If we start electing more liberals at the local government level, that’s the first step to opening the DNC’s eyes to the idea that it’s okay to run liberal candidates.
But we can’t take an “all or nothing” approach. Especially not now when we need to stop drop and roll!
Ted, maybe you should run for office, maybe at the city council level representing whatever party is suitable. Independent is also good, like some of the New England senators, but parties are what gets things done, even if you don’t think they are all the right things.
Your platform, or at least part of it should be that government officials cannot take campaign contributions but must use only allotted air time (equal for all candidates) or something equivalent. If elected, you could work on getting more stringent restraints on legislators ability to own stocks or have financial interests in any legislation.
IOW, take the money out of getting elected and take the money out of buying legislators.
Make it so that actual, provable, bribes are the only way to bribe legislators.
Better Hindenburg than Hitler. Wunderbar. The third panel is likely accurate in predicting the reaction of the establishment media. Fortunately more and more of us are abandoning it. Be prepared to take to the streets to give them the message.
Dump The Rump and the boot-licking Rethuglicons at the state and local levels out of office on November 3, 2020. Afterwards, get COVFEFE-45 under control, get the economy working again, and then put the U.S. back on a path to achieving equal economic and social justice for all. Regardless, turning PINO-Trump is the first step.
Hooray for the corporations. Large and small businesses are here to stay, much to Rall’s chagrin because he prefers an entirely state run economy with no forms of private ownership.
Is that the way it works? I would have thought that message could be sent effectively only through one’s Representative and Senator where the possibility of direct contact and voter concentration could actually be deployed. Enjoy Trump. I suspect that he will get the treason trials started as soon as possible. And with any luck, his more motivated followers will “take care of” all the remaining evil Democrat corporatists.
Perhaps – but it’s a very clear change in direction, and one which is so desperately needed if our Republic is to survive. It’s about cumulative change, cumulative progress, not some grand, revolutionary change. That’s the way politics works. Heck – that’s the way things work in everything from families to mega-corporations.
IF America had an effective multi-party system where the executive was a member of the majority party and ministers were chosen from those elected to office and where the lower house created legislation and the senate was a place of sober second thought…..
OMG I just gagged on my coffee. The House of Lords is appointed, means you could never get rid of Mitch.
I don’t know why I’m chuckling, it’s all true. Which is why voting can’t be the only “message”. Raising hell, every day, is the only hope I have for pushing them to get sane.
Ted doesn’t get it. The vote isn’t the message. It’s what you do to get someone in office who will listen to your message. And success isn’t measured by immediate or absolute results.
I’m supporting Biden, but after the election I will go back to doing the kind of socialist/pacifist/environmentalist organizing I’ve done all my life. Building a revolution is not something you do over night.
It is a mystery to me why Rall and those with similar opinions think that electing a corporate cheerleaders who have been so destructive on democratic processes again is an answer to anything. Do you all really think that when the country crashes, suddenly "the people’ (whoever at that time makes up this category) are going to take over? There is too much inequality that is promoted by American capitalism, but restructuring that capitalism rather than destroying it might be a better option. It has worked pretty well for the social democracies of the EU.
In Maine this year we have ranked choice voting. It’s great! We can vote for the “long shot(s)” we actually want first (and possibly second), then as a second or third choice go for whichever of the “likely” candidates we find slightly less objectionable. I’d love to see the whole country using RCV.
Voters tried to send a message to the Democrats in 2016 – they spurned Hillary for her baggage and attitude… it worked somewhat since Biden is better liked… but will it be enough to get voters to reject Trump?
What the hell does Rall want? For everybody to vote for Bernie even though he is not running? To vote for the Green Party, thus guaranteeing Trump 4 more years? Many people regretted voting for Ralph Nader, because his campaign might well have thrown the election to Bush, and that biggest mistake in US elections until Trump came along. Don’t make that mistake again.
Another lazy Rall ’toon. Took me 10 seconds to find multiple sources reporting that Biden plans on rolling back Trump tax cuts and raise the corporate tax rate. Now, certainly, you can argue Biden is just lying, but I could argue Rall is a Russian stooge and we could just all lose ourselves falling down that spiral.
Tough shit, Ted. Forty million people have already voted early. It’s way too late for a Bernie write-in campaign. Or do you prefer the continuing, insipid tyranny?
Ted Rall gives up, the hidden Plutocracy has him over a barrel. He gives up and just runs in circles saying they are both at base bad. He’s right, but no one matches H.I.M. and the D’s always gives us sops to where the Republicans do not.
After the election we have to remind Biden who elected him and that we don’t expect “business as usual”. Of course since this is a democracy, we have to get real about what exactly we expect to happen. And by the way. Biden has been clear about taxes for those who can afford to support the country that has made their wealth possible.
But if we don’t vote for him and support him, we can’t remind him of anything.
When you consider the fact over 40 million people have already voted early, to say to vote for Biden is trading one corporatist for another is essentially locking the barn door after the horse has bolted. But, having mailed in my ballot (where I voted for Biden) on 10/01, I am not expecting Biden to fix all of the damage Trump caused to our society and global image, it’s easier to break things than fix them after all. The president can propose budgets and nominate judges, but would need Congress to pass said budgets and the Senate to confirm those judges. But putting the grownups back in charge in January will be an important first step.
