Bought a raccoon proof garbage can. Dug a hole, sealed it in the ground. Took the raccoons about 2 hours to figure out how to open it. Put a fifty lb block of scrap iron on it. The coons came inside and opened my refrigerator.
If I moved to Manhattan, would they follow me?
A .22 takes about 5 shots, even if you place them right. I’d go with a shotgun, Zig.
Coons have opposable thumbs like human beings so our “traps” that work on other animals, aren’t geared to keep them out. They can turn a doorknob and lift a latch, If you wan the stop them, LOCK it like you would for human thief.
And don’t be foolish with them. They are smart, mean, fast and adapt to any attack. You either want to kill them or bring in you cats and their food because they will kill your cats and dogs to eliminate the competition.

What a clever reminder system. I just use my plain old computer calendar app to remind me to take out the garbage on Tuesday nights.
