Payne, once again celebrating ignorance for a sad punchline. In 2018, CA Senate Bill 100 was passed which increased the renewables requirement for electric utilities to 50% by 2026, 60% by 2030, and 100% by 2045. We’re six years from the 50% target and CA generates about 34% from renewables.

Too bad we can’t harness the power of ignorance. Payne would power the world!

There is a tragedy behind this comic; because hidden in it is fear and ignorance. And we see it throughout history where advances in technology are rejected. This site lists some great ones. https://humanscience.fandom.com/wiki/Worst_Predictions

I was a mechanic in the early 70s when cars got about 9 mpg on a good day and polluted the Hell out of the planet. The big 3 screamed at DC that they couldn’t do any better. The Japanese kicked their butts and all of a sudden they could do better. Safer cars, better mpg, less pollution all have to be forced upon us but the end result is better. I like getting 30 mpg and changing spark plugs at 100,000 miles instead of 9 mpg and every 10,000 miles.

Payne might be “addicted” to our ‘inglorious’ past … he really seems to oppose change….

Regressives like Payne hate any notion of environmental protection. And they’re far too shortsighted to see that cars powered by alternate energy like electricity and hydrogen are the only thing that will save the internal combustion engine from having to be permanently banned.

Payne is unable to imagine a day when gasoline won’t be available because of economics: Oil is so useful for other things than just to burn it up for power, that when the supply falls below the demand, producers of plastics and lubricants will bid the price up to the point where electric vehicles will be obviously a better option. Meanwhile, those with the ability pay… who want one… will buy greener vehicles, which will help drive development of better ones. Win – win.

Maybe Payne is from California where there is not enough Electric power even now to avoid rolling blackouts, the power companies are heavily reliant on wind, and when the wind stops blowing, the power blackouts begin, which happened last month. Unfortunately, when the wind starts blowing, they also shut off the power because their power lines cause fires. (Think Camp fire of 2019 – 10,000 homes lost and almost 100 killed.) And this is with a much smaller amount of renewable power than “planned” for the future. After 2035 and the last gas car is sold, you best bring along a very long extension cord to power up your electric vehicle.

California is the perfect example of why you DON’T want private companies involved in utilities and what should be considered basic services (e.g. internet access). Enron execs laughed about the rolling blackouts and PG&E spent money on lobbying that was intended for improvements like moving cables underground.

Solar panels installed at vacation/future retirement home 2015. Moved into home fun time in 2017. Home battery installed 2017. PHEV purchased in 2017. Works great. New one this year and 2017 to be replaced with full BEV in early 2021. Cars charged AND electric meter runs BACKWARDS. (Utility has to buy power from us). Last filled tank of 2017 PHEV in July and 2020 PHEV in August.

It’s not a ban on all cars, it’s a ban on NEW gas cars being sold.

We’ll always have horses for transportation unless they enter OUR food chain. They won’t run on coal or gasoline to be sure. We can put them out to pasture like the ass in the White House.

These lib knuckleheads don’t follow the news. California has had electrical blackouts numerous times, thanks to the dumb policies of Gavin Newsome. Meanwhile, Newsome wants 100% electric cars. Need electricity to charge them. No electricity = no go. Can we make it any simpler for your?

My new Prius gets around 50MPG city and highway mixed, is comfortable, quiet, and cute as a new puppy. And, the prices are not beyond my budget, which they were a few years ago. If you are thinking about a new car, check out a hybrid. They are affordable now, and a real pleasure to drive.
