Except for that these blackouts are happening to reduce the risk of wildfires. Why do those wildfires happen? Oh, right, because of global warming and subsequent climate change. You know, the reason for the Green New Deal in the first place.

If you’re referring to the blackouts that happened 3 weeks ago, those happened because of:

    a) a heat wave that covered several western states (made more likely by global warming). This prevented the electric grid that blacked out (on 5%, not all, of Californians) from importing electricity from out-of-state.

    b) electric grid fragmentation. This prevented the relevant electric grid from getting electricity from other grids in CA, that did not black out.

    c) the as-of-yet unexplained failure of a 1000 MW wind source and 470 MW natural gas plant.

Two years ago, CAISO, the CA non-profit in charge of electrical power distribution, either warned or was warned about this. The point is, this is clearly the lack of proper planning and storage, not just unreliability of renewable energy sources. A fossil fuel plant also failed. Regardless, I do agree that the mass deployment of RES should come with corresponding electrical storage, in order to make them reliable.

Henry and the other Trump Disciples want to deregulate all utilities.

You know, Small Government. Small enough to drown it in the bathtub.

That way, a thousand Enrons can blossom. It’ll be glorious.

Holy Moses! Payne needs to look at the footage of what’s happening on the west coast. Fire burns out Republicans & Democrats with equal impunity. It’s getting worse every year.

PG&E is a monopolistic corporation, which has sought to maximize profits by deferring line maintenance and replacement for years. Failure to clear trees and brush in power line right of ways – basic grid management practices needed to assure community safety – have been kicked down the road for so long that the cost to do it marginally, let alone properly, would bankrupt PG&E. So the blackouts are happening because of unregulated capitalism putting short term profits over maintaining a sustainable infrastructure. This toon is a total bull sh*t deflection from the root cause of California’s power problems: I.e. the unfettered greed Payne constantly shills for.

The blackouts are happening because the power company had been given money to upgrade the electrical infrastructure, which it then did not do. Now they’re in a lot of trouble because of it, so they’re causing blackouts to protect themselves from further liability.

The fires are, to a large degree, the responsibility of the politicians in charge of California, Oregon, and Washington. They listened to the tree-huggers instead of the forestry experts and shut down fire roads, ceased logging and replanting operations, and in general fouled up the whole deal.

The power grid is the problem. It’s overburdened, cumbersome, dangerous and expensive. We are at the point where we could be planning on using renewables to replace the current grid. Redesign the whole damn thing.

But we have cowardly fools that have investments to protect. So Payne lets the world burn. And then blames it on the people trying to fix it.

Aside from greed being the main problem about brownouts/blackouts, it is the lack of having a single interstate grid that can supply electricity from a surplus area to an area in need that is a large part of the problem. However, the lack of a single system is more due to the fear (and very understandable, though) of hacking, than uncooperativeness of differing electric companies.

A single system does make sense, but it needs to be built up separately from the present information system. It needs to be built on a separate operating system with encryption AND the inability for any computer program on that system to be accessed from the outside. That means data and program memories are totally isolated and there’s no way information from memory can be transferred to the other without direct manual control. it was done this way originally. It can be done again. It would take new hardware as well as new software, but we need to protect the system once it’s upgraded. This is where spending money on prevention would end up making money on reduced future costs quickly beneficial.

When we moved we installed solar panels and power walls. There are times when the meter runs backwards and at night we switch over to the batteries and during the day the panels then recharge the batteries. If you were to do that in PGE Land you would still have to pay about $25.00 per month for what PGE calls “access fees.” But a friend who lives in Silicon Valley and does not have solar panels yet paid between $300 and $450 a month in electricity this summer with air-conditioning and what must be everything that could be turned on turned on, and that’s with double paned windows. I hate PGE. Wherever you are, get solarized and get a water heater solar panel as well. Tell your power company where to stick it.

Welcome to the future if Hidin Biden gets elected. The Green New Deal will be California times 10. Under democratic control, California wnt from the Golden state, to more like pee yellow, thanks to the homeless, drug addicts, sex offenders, you know, typical democrats.
