FYI, C.A. Brobst: John McCain spent several years in the Hanoi Hilton prison camp as a Prisoner of WAR during the Viet Nam conflict. He was shot down over North Viet Nam flying a US Navy aircraft. I would say that qualifies as having “been to war.”
Please engage your mind before your mouth/keyboard.
Better yet, do a little reading, you may, God forbid, learn something!
BTW: Only the president can send in the troops, as is what has happened in all three of the places depicted here. He has the ultimate control of the Pentagon and its war making.
Congress has had no say especially where Libya is concerned. At least Iraq and Afghanistan had their, Congress’s, approval.
Obama can send troops anywhere to fight, or do anything, for up to 60 days. After that, Congress has to approve, and Congress has to be the ones to actually declare war. We have not been in a technical “war” since WWII:
Truman in Korea, LBJ and Nixon both asserted their right to go into Vietnam (and Eisenhower and JFK), Nixon bombed Cambodia “secretly” (meaning keeping it from us), Bush I intervened in Somalia, Clinton in Kosovo, and of course Bush II came up with the ridiculous idea of preemptive war.
Though McCain did indeed go to Vietnam. You’d think he would think twice about us going to war again, but a significant percentage of his political stands seems to be based on spite rather than consistency.
McCain got shot down (bad luck or bad piloting) and yes served several miserable years, which explains his PTSD reactions he always denies. I used to respect him, now just feel sorry for him. As to other “warriors” not so historically endowed, drop them all from 30,000 feet over Afghanistan and see how high THEY bounce!

^^ You forgot about Desert Storm and Desert Shield too.
And I too was wondering who “Joe” is.

“Joe” is Joe Lieberman, Independent Senator from Connecticut.

Is that Joe Lieberman?
I do recognize the horse from Guernica, however.
