I like this story thread. I don’t think writers do enough puffin jokes.
There is a breed of dog called a Norwegian lundehund which is one of the oldest purebreds and was bred to hunt puffins. Perhaps one of them could be worked into the strip.

It seems like I read once that puffins have the brightly-colored beak only in breeding season.
