I heard, ( though I cannot confirm ) that France was actually the first nation to have planes in the Air when the UN gave the go-ahead to the no-fly zone.

France has always had lots of money tied up with snakepits…they undoubtedly pushed for NATO to do something in Libya. They have had nuclear deals, arms deals, all kinds of deals with Libya over the years….and now Gaddafhi is just so bad he has to go. Who are we kidding?

Believe the Mirage jets were the first piloted aircraft in.

^ As to French dealings with Libya- in 2005-, what about ours? Or, how bout that Rumsfeld dealing with Saddam, or our providing him those chemical weapons?

You googled them, but did you read them?

Libya, long ostracized for bankrolling terrorists and seeking nuclear weapons, has become a popular destination for Western officials in search of new markets ever since the European Union and the United States lifted economic sanctions last year.

In other words, the French only made that approach AFTER the Bush adminstration gave the green light.

All military actions puts money in circulation…starting with the pockets of a select few. Oh, and by the way, it will always be thus so.

Sanctions were lifted off of Libya for a number of reasons, Simon. Libya was open to inspections of its nuclear program. Libya accepted responsibility for Lockerbie and gave billions of dollars to the families of the deceased in late 2002 and 2003. They “jumped through the hoops” that were presented to them in order to open up their doors to business.

My point was only that the French have been very active in Libya for the last decade, and they would certainly be the ones leading the charge to protect their interests.
