The euphimism “Terminate With Predjudice” doesn’t mean what Diet thinks it means.

There is a lot more reading to do with the new Dick Tracy.

More info that’s makes it a real story.

No longer like a grade two reader.

    Can’t wait for Sunday.

    Thor’s Hammer, Diet Smith’s wireless taser…

“Thor’s Hammer™ could be a terrible weapon in the wrong hands!” Don Blake would agree with that!

I remember this story from the Tribute Site but am still looking forward to reading it again. Knowing how it ends doesn’t spoil it for me.

I continue to prefer the coloring here over the Comics Kingdom version. Diet Smith is wearing a green suit over there… wonder what color it will be tomorrow in the officially colored Sunday strip.

I LOVE IT!!! Some corporate espionage, theft of trade secrets, a disgruntled employee, and plans for a weapon in the wrong hands. What more could you ask for?

OH PLEASEEEE!!!!! Give the employee a clasic Tracy name.

SCOTTtheBADGER, the phrase you’re thinking of is “terminate with extreme prejudice.” Merely terminating “with prejudice” is not as extreme. :>

No Diet’s right, i found this on wikipedia: a person can be terminated with prejudice, meaning an employer will not rehire the former employee to a similar job in the future. This can be for many reasons: incompetence, misconduct (such as dishonesty or “zero tolerance” violations), insubordination or “attitude” (personality clashes with peers or bosses).

Since the new team took the reins, I’ve been trying to put into words what is so different about Dick Tracy (besides the obvious: plot, pacing, etc.) and the best way I can put it is NOW it’s no longer a struggle to view it. The eyes are not fighting the brain with weird perspectives, odd hands, conflicting rain and wave directions and all.

D.T. used to be the last comic viewed in my line-up at Gocomics because it was usually a groaner and, now, it’s, to use an old term, easy on the eyes.

    Thanks Joe & Mike!

Love how the story is progressing, with real plot development and a solid script. It’s like reading a novel.

Joe’s art on Tracy keeps getting better; I especially like the shadow on Tracy in panel 3.

Panel 1. Crosshatching! This is something I’ve been waiting to see in this strip. It was one of Chester Gould’s strongest devices and I even used it when I used to draw way back when. More, pleases!

I agree with your comment, Bill. That’s why I go to the ComicStripNatuion site where they have it in even larger format. We have us a story going here. Just wondering where Flyface and The Fifth will tie into it.

I’ll add another “awesome” to the panel one compliments. I do think the coloring has been better lately, but I love the black & white version.

Thank you again, Mike and Joe for restoring Dick Tracy.

Glad to see the art appreciated. As I stated previously, Shelley has been studying the inking of classic comic artists, to get the feel of a classic Dick Tracy. The cross-hatching and inking are all done by Shelley. Joe’s pencils have cross-hatching, but often it is redone so that it will appear better on a small strip. Many of the fine details get lost when the strip is printed. Shelley has to balance the detail with what can actually be seen. I guess I just want to say that, yes the drawing is all Joe Staton, but the inking is all Shelley Pleger. As a proud husband, it is hard to stay quiet. Rant over.

To clarify, I am NOT saying that Shelley should get all the credit for the art. She has said herself, that she can’t draw Dick Tracy. Joe has captured Tracy and made the character his own. He is close to Gould’s Tracy, but he will always be Joe’s Tracy. Shelley is just taking the art Joe creates and enhancing it. Here is a video I found on-line that demonstrates what I am talking about.

I would love to link you all to the original pencil sketch, but my wife would delegate me to the couch for a year if I did. (grin) Besides, it is Joe’s pencil sketch and technically the property of TMS, so I would get into other trouble as well.

To “terminate with prejudice” means you will not hire the person again under any circumstances.

In some movie, I cannot recall which, the phrase “to terminate with extreme prejudice” was used to indicate that the person would need to be killed.

To Joe Staton and Mike Curtis- THANK YOU! I grew up with a steady Dick Tracy diet back in the sixties and seventies. Lost track of him for a few decades, then found him online about a year ago… but you gentlemen have restored the spark that was missing in the series I knew so well. Keep up the great work!
