I have issues with everything, but this country needs a commercial free, public broadcasting system. Private is not always better. And sometimes it’s downright evil.

Don’t take away my only excuse for not contributing to PBS. If government subsidies are ended, I may have to give some money to them. I watch TV at home and hear radio in my car. It would mean more time begging and less time to talk. Might even drive me to commercial advertising for pass time. Have mercy!

You have two choices: You can pay for PBS through tax dollars or you can pay for it directly like the BBC. They assess and collect a fee from each and every household based on how many TVs are owned in that house.

Can I take Fox off my cable broadcast and use those fees to support PBS? I would much rather have PBS as an option, since I watch that channel and not Fox (or about 100 other channels that I have no interest in).

I agree with cdward and SaltWaterCroc.

I learn a lot from PBS/NPR and think it is worthy of support. Even if they have some politics to cause objection, they have a LOT of non-political, educational programming!

Note the electrical source. Watching Charlie Rose speaking with David Brooks at the moment. Intelligent people actually speaking and listening to each other’s views. THAT is the difference between PBS and “networks”- broadcast or cable, or “talk” radio(blather). Compare the number of “conservatives” who get to express their views on PBS, versus the number of “liberals” actually allowed to get their views out on Faux or Limbaugh- wait, there IS no comparison.

So the difference between PBS and others is that intelligent people are on PBS and everyone else (particularly FOX) is………(evil and dumb).

I’ll give you Rose holding conversations rather than confrontations (that’s good and we need more of that) but CSPAN does that too–without any government funding.

When was the last time you saw a conservative being interviewd by Rose? Few and far between. If you actually watched FOX you would see that the liberal point of view is very often part of the dialogue (although there is too much confrontation and not enough calm).

PBS was a good idea 50 years ago, but it’s outlived it’s usefullness and I don’t want to pay for it with taxes anymore. Let it become a pay for view channel like the others.

Can’t Sesame Street just come up with a few more Elmo dolls and donate the money to themselves?

pbs. very good. let it be public, and sink or swim on its merits and marketability. i have no use for it. or be taxed, as you will be (starting in 2013, $60-90 each person per month) to support obamacare, which i have no use for also, and likely never will.

I don’t want to pay for churches or DADT investigations with my tax dollars but they’re still happening.

I don’t want to pay for 2 wars with my tax dollars but nobody ever asked.

I also don’t see what PBS has to apologize for regarding today’s sting operation – anymore than I understood the firing of Juan Williams. Nobody has to give them the ax, they just gladly accept it and do the work all by themselves.
