Chopsticks were the original eating utensil.. then, they got smart and invented forks. First they sharpened the ends so you could stab.. then for efficiency they glued several together.. and viola.. a fork.
I went to University and the meal plan only covered weekdays. On the weekend I usually ate in the local China-town (Spadina area of Toronto) with some of the Chinese / Korean students. It took about a month to reach black belt level with chopsticks and I can still eat quicker with sticks than knife and fork and I frequently get comments in Chinese restaurants from the servers that they have never before seen an Occidental that could use chopsticks as well (or better) than their Oriental customers.

Chopsticks are why you seldom see a fat Chinese.

I tried to used chopsticks once but found that it wasn’t worth the trouble. A fork is a much easier utensil to use.

I’ve been eating Chinese food since early childhood. Never learned to eat like “a civilized person”. And it tastes just as good with Western utensils.

I think you need to eat more Chinese food, for that reason.

A good party game is trying to pick up a boiled egg with chopsticks, without stabbing it.

Tried it as a dietary aid. Didn’t work. I got REALLY good with chopsticks!
