Yea… What’s interesting to me is the only one’s who are bringing up Newt is the left. I don’t know anyone who is serious on the conservative side who is actually bringing up Newt into the discussion. Of all the Reps with previous attempts, only the Huckster and Romney have come up in talks. Heck, flip-flopper, TV star, super businessman and hair deficient super rich man Donald Trump has gotten much more press and garnered much more possible support than old eye of Newt.

So maybe this should be a comic mockery that should just cease. Just saying. No Newt is good Newt.

DJ, seriously, I’d like your take on the Trump. Think he can make a serious bid. We know he’s got the money and the name recognition.

He def has the money and name rec. I think his one major drawback is his history. He is a bigger flip-flopper than McCain, LOL. If a debate would occur, opponents on both sides of the isle will easily point out this flaw and exploit it fully. So, even if he did make the final bid, he’d probably get beat in the end.

Going for him is his business sense in knowing how to make money, how to spend money, how to manage a payroll of immeasurable magnitude, how to debate and how to portray himself as a strong leader. Those are all certainly desirable traits, especially desired by those on the Right. God knows they need one… it’s been a while.

However, I think he’s also a polarizing figure. People either love him or hate him. He certainly can be portrayed as narcissistic and selfish, despite the many charitable donations. But in the last few years he and his kids have taken on a better air of character on TV than in previous years (this is my opinion based on watching the Celebrity Apprentices and the first Apprentice).

Personally, still not the representative I would be hoping for. Sadly, I think Hukabee is a little bit better a choice for me… though I’m not sold on him either and am not sure he’d stand a chance either.

btw… thanks for asking Walrus. I would be curious at your take and/or whether you’d like to see Obama challenged in a primary or not.

^ The only reason I demonize him is because he demonizes the LGBT community. If he lives and let live, I have no issue with him.

Claiming gays will destroy the “sanctity” of marriage when he’s twice an adulterer and on his third marriage makes him pretty much the demon he claims others are.

Dj, the kindest I can be to O is to think of him as Carter light. Well meaning, but a bungler. Challenged? On the one hand yes, because I don’t think he’s strong. On the other no, because I thinkthe fight would weaken the party and that is one thiing we don’t need. P.S. Your wig party joke is too painful to deserve a rimshot ;-)

My GOP ticket for 2012: Christie/West. Talk about kicking butt and taking names. 2020: West/Rubio.

I like Huck as a person, but he is a populist like Palin. Newt is probably the smartest of all, but has lots of baggage. Ron Paul has good ideas, but could never be elected. It may come down to Romney, who would be a thousand times better than what we have now.

Jade… just because Newt does an exploratory committee and it’s reported in news doesn’t discount my point.

Example: I admittedly listen to conservative talk radio most all daytime long. When Newt has been brought up, the host always scoff at the idea. They don’t want to see him run.

I don’t know where Rush stands, because I can’t stand him either, but none of the respectable hosts, nor Beck (see, a joke!) has pined or cheered the idea. They mostly just shrug it off and hope he doesn’t try. On the other hand, they have been positive about Romney, Hukabee and other odd Governors and such that have not actually cast their hat. My local paper has talked positively and negatively about the idea of Sir Wig.

Thus, a news story is a news story. This is an opinion piece (editorial comic) and thus it’s the opinions of those people who will either admonish or approve the bid and influence the populace the most.

My point is that the key people that the Right bring up are not the one’s the Left bring up… and vice versa. If the left was on the same playing card as the Right, then the barbs would be more impactful.

Actually Bruce pretty much states what I hear most often from the Right.

Btw, I don’t think Rubio is able to run as he was a Cuban immigrant I believe.

And walrus, objectively I think I would agree with you. I would just like to see something more moderate from your side, as Clinton was. Equally, I’d like to see more conservative from my side… that clearly shows my bias, for better or worse.

Fox may actually be in a bit of a bind since government rules state that you can’t be an ANNOUNCED candidate and get the free exposure that being a “contributor” offers. So Newt et al are iin a bit of a bind. I’m sure he and Fox would gladly overlook these rules, but the gov’t is less inclinded.

The media like ”faces.” No one should care about the location, contents, or exploits of the contents, of his pants.

Neither one would make good candidates and still don’t seem to have support of the media heads on the Right.

But fair enough… maybe the boxers and shirt should have been inverted to show that he’s not just lost his pants, but this mind also.
