“Under God” was a recent addition back then – when Schulz was at school, it was just “one nation, indivisible”. That’s the joke here.

This was adapted into the stage musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”. Patty replaced Sally. Sparky would also use this same strip in 1987 with Peppermint Patty.
