Any excuse to get to kill another lion

The lion sleeps with a full stomach tonight…

Why, in such cases (like the encounter with Betty Cole), Tarzan almost never considers to subdue the injured lion and heal it, but prefers to kill?

There was one occasion Tarzan healed an injured lion and didn’t harm it, even after it killed someone (see https://www.erbzine.com/mag43/4302.html), but that was an exception.

How many lions will you kill, you bloodthirsty fiend!

A lot of conjecture there, Tarzan.

So then the real storyline isn’t about killing the poachers but rather killing another lion.

Time to dig a pit!

Give it time. We’ll get a story out of this yet.

Just don’t go into the Forbidden Forest.

With Gil Kane doing the artwork, I keep expecting to see Batman or Green Lantern.

What? No investigation, no trial? Just vigilante justice for the lion?

Those damn poachers got exactly what they deserved, but now poor wounded Numa will be killed instead of Tarzan getting a vet to save him. Why not send Numa to Wuhan?

There is a unique touch here. He’s swinging the knife around before he finds the lion and even gives new meaning to swinging through the trees.

Is “Thing” from the Addams family making a guest appearance in P4?

The poachers trying to kill a lion: bad. Tarzan trying to kill a lion: good.

Careful Tarzan, you don’t want to end up in the Llongo’s Forbidden Forest as the Phantom did when he chased a wounded lion…

Oh, great! Another Noble Numa must be slain by T’Zan because of those dang poachers1

(Well, it was either that or some other excuse for the obligatory “Tarzan grapples with and kills huge lion” scene.)

I remember anticipating the animal or creature fights when reading Tarzan as a kid. It was always “aw hell” if it was a lion again
