Parents owned a small orchard when we were kids. Mom and dad had POSTED signs or NO TRESPASSING signs around it. It was located about 3/4 of a mile from where we actually lived. We would walk over to the place when the fruit was ripe and every once in a while just pick one to eat off the tree. On one side was a mean old bat of a woman, (can’t call her a lady) She was always watching for us. When she saw us pick something she always screamed and yelled at us that she knew the owners and would call them or the sheriff if we didn’t stop. We loved to thumb our noses at her and keep walking. That or pick four or five more in front of her to egg her on!
