Peppermint Patty lies in bed. Marcie stands beside her. Peppermint Patty asks, "Marcie! What happened? Where am I?"<BR><BR> Marcie replies, "You're home, sir . . . You got hit on the head by a baseball . . . It was a wild pitch . . ."<BR><BR> Peppermint Patty says, "Chuck threw a wild pitch? But we won, didn't we? We were ahead fifty to nothing . ."<BR><BR> Peppermint Patty sinks into the bed. Marcie says, "We lost, sir . . . Fifty-one to fifty!"<BR><BR>

And that was NO April Fools’ joke, either, in spite of the fact that this was on April 1—-Chuck REALLY DID blow winning the game, for Peppermint Patty’s team.

PP:“Marcie,I KNOW you’re just joking, for two reasons:1, after all, this IS April 1, and 2, we were SO FAR ahead, even CHUCK knew it was impossible to lose! Marcie:”No,sir, I’m afraid this is NO April fool joke; I REALLY am being serious. 51 to 50 really was the score." PP:“AAARRGGHHHHHH! I KNEW IT! And ALL BECAUSE of that MORON, Chuck! I KNEW I shouldn’t have given in to his constant badgering! But I did, and THAT”S the reward we ALL get for it—LOSING THE GAME!"
