Although most WWII veterans would probably be in their 40’s at this time, a lot of people possibly not be familiar with Ike or Ike jackets and Bill Maudlin, a cartoonist who had a series of infantry based cartoons with two characters, Willie and Joe.

This strip started somewhat of an annual tradition of Snoopy celebrating Veteran’s Day by imagining going to cartoonist Bill Mauldin’s house and quaffing some root beers and sharing some war stories, something supposedly Schulz did in real life.
