Pat Oliphant for February 15, 2011
Transcript:
General: We, your buddies at the Pentagon, congratulate the Egyptian Army on this wonderful takeover! Well done! Now, remember - always let the dumb civilians think they're in charge. That's democracy. They may try to cut the defense budget, but that's just window dressing. Nobody wants to be unpatriotic, right? You'll end up with more money than Allah - or Mubarak, even! Haw! We at the Pentagon wish we had your deal - what am I saying? We already have your deal! Call if you need anything. Punk: We are Egypt.

But the Egyptian generals don’t have that revolving door to defense contractor’s gilded offices!

^ Reminds me of the Chinese PLA until the end of the ’90s. Perhaps they’ll follow China’s example on how to spin these off. i.e. make some retired generals very rich through “privatisation”

Fairpo, would you rather dump the soldiers on the unemployment line? Why not the Army Corps of Engineers & the SeaBees. Maybe they can make cars & planes & ships.

Amazing the way people from other countries feel free to blame the US for any problem their people have. If the US were really as powerful as it is said to be, it could simply proclaim world peace and put everyone to work making appliances and gem-studded rocket launchers.

World peace doesn’t pay.
