The child learns Simon and Garfunkel because that’s what the mother sings while she’s pregnant and in those first few months of life when it’s just holding the little one during feedings and sleepings.

I used to sing some Marley (“Every little thing is gonna be alright”) to my youngest when she would cry as a baby. Now if I sing it to her, she starts crying. I guess she associates that song with crying. Go figure…
