Obviously, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Gun show sales loop holes are a major contributor to illegal sales, and criminal possession of fire arms.
Tigger,,,, As Pavlov says, Only registered firearms dealers conduct background checks at gun shows (and gun auctions).
Pavlov,,,Since unlicensed sellers have no paper trail, there is little chance that they will be caught unless they set up business in one spot.
Hitler and Hussein didn’t allow the citizens to own guns. That’s one of the ways they stayed in power.
which is exactly why our Constitution says we get to keep ‘em.
And, um, who did McVeigh shoot? Was he known to even possess guns? Yeah, I knew he went to gun shows, but his big crime had nothing to do with handguns. Nice red herring, Steve.
Granted, you’ve never been one to let the truth stand in the way of your politics, but this one was particularly lame.
MrGromit,,, Hussein DID allow gun ownership which continues today. Each family may possess one AK-47.
Benson is not saying McVeigh shot anyone, he is demonstrationg that those individuals could legally purchase guns at a gun show even knowing what we do about them.
Firearms sales at “gun shows” vary from state to state. With enough ammonium nitrate and diesel, who needs a Glock?? Hitler gave everyone a gun, it was called WW II, and children were given guns, kinda’ like that “well regulated militia”.
Being crazy no longer keeps people from getting guns, radio programs, or elected office.
Gromit, the most dangerous thing about Hitler (besides that he is used to justify any stupid theory nowadays) , is that even if the Germans did have guns, they wouldn’t have used them against Hitler. Hitler was such an orator that he drove the people into renouncing their own freedom through flattery and propaganda.
Although I wince at the over-use of Hitler, Steve Benson’s point is a good one. We need to return to the FULL Second Amendment and permit gun-ownership only in relation to the nation’s need for a “well regulated militia”. This means full background & mental health checks. Anyone rejected by the military for reasons of mental health is not qualified to be a member of our well-regulated militia, obviously. In addition, all gun owners must post their contact information on-line in public websites so that our nation can call upon them in time of crisis.
Tigger is wrong again, as he almost universally is. The cartoon is a reference to a “sting” where newspaper reporters went to gun shows in Arizona and bought Glocks and assault rifles with cash, even after telling the seller that they wouldn’t pass a background check. All perfectly legal, of course, and exactly how Mexican drug gangs and criminals in cities get their weapons. Fear of the NRA keeps the loophole from being closed, and people die directly as a result.
