Probably a drop in the bucket in comparison to how much money they’ve made over the years that they were able to weasel their way out of paying taxes on.
Cue the entirely understandable, except perhaps to the elite, rage of the Yellow Vests. So much for that “this will bring all of France together” notion.
Some (many) folk have too much money. And.. there is probably a catch.. with a tax benefit to those that contribute.. AND consequently the tax payer makes up the loss..
Just how much of Notre Dame is original anyway? All the “ancient” buildings have been added to or replaced or redesigned over the ages. I’m willing to bet that the only original part of the building is a small piece of a wall or two.
I feel the same way about the money corporations pay lobbyists and contribute to politicians…they could put that money into the pockets of their employees or hire more people.

Jesus was very clear about where $ donated in his name was supposed to go. OTOH, Notre Dame must be rebuilt.

Still less than the taxes the church has not paid.

The Catholic church is richer than god. They would have millions more if they hadn’t payed off the people their priests raped.

In the USA, they’d get naming rights for the library, stadium or some other important building. Wonder what the Holy Romans are gonna give ’em.
