I match my socks exactly, because they never let you live down a fashion faux pas at the machine shop.
A good friend of mine NEVER matches her socks. Her only rule is that her socks can never match.

Wearing non-matching socks makes laundry sorting that much easier.
Just tell them you have another pair at home just like it.
