I once read of a dog owner with the very same problem. Trying to hide the pill, or force it down her throat – nothing worked. But when she gave up and left the pill lying on the table, her dog sniffed it – and ate it up.

Peanut butter and pills. Mine has to take pills everyday at the same time. He reminds me that it is peanut butter time before it is time for peanut butter and pills.

Most dogs can hear and understand, so don’t announce out loud the way you’re about to try to trick them to take their pill. We had a dog who would only take her pill when it was wrapped in a specific brand American cheese – It was expensive, but it worked.

It always works with my brother’s miniature dachshund. My mom would even announce we’re gonna play a trick on her right in front of her, and she’d eat everything including the pill. I used to try to bug her by telling her to take her medicine like a dog and put it right in her mouth, and she’d turn her head, and my mom would tell me to stop the nonsense. That’s what I like about miniature dachshunds. You can get away with a lot more than you can with big ones like great Danes.

    Take care and God bless.

We had a very sick little kitten a few years ago. We got her to take medicine by having our vet call the prescription in to a compounding pharmacy and blending the meds in with something like salmon. She LOVED taking her medicine!

I had a female German Shepard who would lay down on a fire ant bed and just lay there getting eaten alive.
