First. (I’ve always wanted to do that, for some juvenile reason. Not a kick at all. Oh, well.)

A net is ONLY useful if the ball had reached the INSIDE of the hoop and truly, only serves to slow the ball so that the ‘shot’ may be verified.

It also sometimes is seized a a trophy by the winning coach at the end of a tournament, when I guess it is then mounted on a wall as a basically atavistic symbol of superiority, though I have no direct evidence of this!

In the original game. an ACTUAL basket, usually apple or peach, was used – hence, the name. An assistant would remove the ball using a ladder kept close by for that purpose, if the ‘shot’ was successful.

It’s obvious that it wasn’t Arlo that wore out the last one.

One of the greatest days of my life was when I realized that I did not need to play basketball to prove my manhood, and I didn’t ever have to try it again.

Maybe if Arlo got a little “one-on-one” going, he’d make a shot.

or get scored on, either probably works ;)
