Arlo seems really down in the dumps lately.

I took this to be more about losing an hour’s sleep, with the time change.

But I’m not sure, cos the lost sleep would have been between Saturday night and Sunday morning….

    and this is Monday.

Then again…. yesterday, in Sunday’s strip, I got the impression DST hadn’t happened yet…..

so this could be the continuation… or the upshot.

I enlarged it to try to make out Arlo’s half-missing words….

I’m usually pretty decent at word puzzles but I couldn’t pick up much

    (Anybody?)

It does seem like Janis just might be rolling her eyes, though …. (cough) …

which I don’t think she’d do if he were actually depressed.

Arlo! Don’t you use your ESPN to know when your Spouse wants you to a Chatty Charlie despite that you’ve only had 1/2 cup of Joe???

The problem is that they sat at the table together and Arlo said nothing. As soon as she’s in the next room out of earshot, he tells her something. Now she has to get up and go back to the kitchen to find out what he wants. This tends to be quite annoying.

Usually Arlo is the chatty one; up first, make coffee, etc. Probably DST-lag. Takes a little longer to wake up for a coupe of days.

Ours happen on March 24th. At least we have more daylight both ways.

I can relate to this – sitting around in silence until I get into something that requires my attention and then you can’t keep them quiet

For those wondering why he dropped the story line about the son and their potential relocation to be closer to their son; it appears Jimmy may still be taking a long work vacation according to his blog post the end of last month,

“It might not come as a surprise to you, but I’ve been out a bit myself lately. I’m in the second week of a vacation/work vacation, in the latter portion alas. The strips running in newspapers this week and next, and on GoComics, are “best-of” repeats, chosen and recolored by myself. This week’s strips are from 2012, and next week’s will be from 2008. I hope you enjoy seeing them again.” Source: http://arloandjanis.com/time-out#comments

We do it the other way around—my wife walks into the other room and then starts talking. Usually facing the other way. She is also a master of pronouns—he, they, it, etc.—without an introduction to indicate who or what she is referring to. I love her anyway.

You lose the upper frequencies as you age, and consonants (which are made with the tongue against the teeth) are higher-pitched than vowels (which are made in the throat). So you can hear someone talking but the words sound garbled because parts of them are missing or muted. Hearing aids give the consonants back (and bird song, and who knew the neighbors had a small yappy dog, and… Love mine!)

My husband could sit next to me on the couch and say nothing for hours. If I called him from work for some reason, all of a sudden he had an hour’s worth of things to tell me.
