I’ve changed my avatar to my kitty, Tigger. Tigger is the cat who disappeared on July 23rd last year and was missing for 4 months, coming back home on Thanksgiving morning. About 3 weeks ago. I discovered he had roundworms. It was a gross discovery I made on my own and I took Tigger to the vet, along with the Ziploc bag of worms to show the vet. I thought I’d get pills or something for his worms and I’d update his vaccinations, which I was behind on ad we’d be on our merry way and he’d be safe from any more vet visits for another year when vaccination time rolled around again. Oh how wrong I was! He was treated topically for the worms, but upon her examination, the vet found that Tigger has an irregular heartbeat. We did an EKG on him and it showed a very irregular beat His heart was racing more than it does on the average stressed cat, too. Well, the vet needed to do a booster on the Feline leukemia shot in 3 weeks and she wanted to look at another EKG then. Tigger saw the vet on Thursday and the EKG showed the irregular beat again. We then did blood work for hyperthyroidism (which can cause an irregular beat) and some other things. The thyroid test came back Friday as negative but other blood test results are not back yet. We also did x-rays which showed a greatly enlarged heart (about double normal size) and fluid in the lungs. Though he shows no outward signs of illness, it appears Tigger is one sick kitty. He’s only 8 years old (he turns 9 on the 2nd of April). The vet believes this is a case of Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Tigger is on Lasix for the fluid on his lungs, but in order to determine the best medicine for his heart, an echocardiogram is called for. I would need to take him to a specialist to have this done. My vet has consulted with this specialist and has shown her the x-rays and EKG and the specialist was amazed at how enlarged Tigger’s heart is. That doesn’t sound good to me when an emergency vet can be amazed at the size of his heart.
So, anyway, I needed to know, though I was afraid of the answer how seriously my vet would rate Tigger’s condition. Moderate? Serious? She rated it serious, based on the x-rays. I still need to set up a time (possibly on Monday, my next day off) to get Tigger to the specialist at the emergency vet. Oh, yeah, the vet wanted the x-rays to help rule out cancer and there is no sign of tumors, so cancer is not a concern. Tigger’s littermate, Oscar, died of cancer a week before his third birthday (actually, I had to euthanize him because he was so sick and there was no hope of a cure. It was inoperable cancer). THe vet has said that Tigger could at any time suffer a heart attack or heart failure but we will try to treat him medically to delay or avoid that. I’m worried about him. But I am so thankful that when hs time comes, he will be safely at home (or at the vet if I have to go that route. He could so easily have died of heart failure or a heart attack while he was missing those 4 months.
Good morning and happy Caturday, Graham Crackers. Go Comics appears to have fixed its glitches and I can see my whole queue again! I hope everyone is keeping well and safe.
I’m trying to tell more about Tigger, but this stupid thing won’t let me post another comment more than 2 lines long. Then it won’t let me do too many comments in a row.
I forgot to mention the poor guy also has an infected tooth. But due to his heart problem, the vet is afraid to attempt doing dental work because she doesn’t think he could handle anesthesia.
He hates the ear drops and fights like mad when I do that. I took this picture of him for my avatar shortly after I had put drops in his ears. He was still a little mad at me when I took this picture.
My best to you and Tigger ! Sounds like you have a solid program going for him. I have faith in you guys, Laughingkitty. Your little guy’s gonna pull through !! :)

Tigger has a yeast infection in his ears too (no ear mites though) and I have to put drops in his ears twice a day for 14 days (3 days down, 9 to go).
