I live in rural Kentucky, not far from Fort Knox. The commissary was set to shut down today. The post pharmacy was set to shut down today. Many other important services were not to open today. None of these services involved “managing other people’s business”. Just good, hard working folks, doing there job supporting the military, veterans and the local community. The VAST majority of government workers in our nation are just regular, hard-working citizens trying to make it through the day, just like everyone else. To try to imply that their work is bureaucratic government overreach is grossly unfair.
All that’s going to happen is that everyone will vote along party lines again. And even if we get new blood in, it will be blood from the same diseased donors. Either support third parties or start demanding your party, not the other guys, shape up. Or sit around and make comments about how it’s all ‘their’ fault, which I’m willing to bet what will occur. After all, our political system isn’t about fixing problems. It’s about assigning blame to ‘them’.
The only thing the Republicans were able to accomplish this year was shutting down the government. They finally did it, then forgot to even take the credit.

Trump certainly contributed a shithole component, but Ryan and McConnell have been unwilling/unable to come up with a budget or compromise on a deal.
