This takes me way back to when this strip was in our local paper. I remember Gunther chasing the Roadrunner and one of his kids saying Dad was going out for fast food. I am not sure how long this strip has been around but I think this was in the ’80s.
Coyote actually did catch the roadrunner in the later cartoons. After catching him, he broke the fourth wall and held up a sign that said, “Now what do I do with him?” The roadrunner then took off leaving his image in a cloud of dust.
An Englishman took a holiday at a Texas dude ranch. As he was being driven to the ranch the driver constantly bragged about Texas. When a roadrunner ran across the highway the Texan said, “And that there is the Bird of Paradise.” And the Englishman replied, “My, he’s a long way from home.”

He uses the wrong bait. Roadrunners don’t eat birdseed. They eat small rodents & reptiles, maybe a large spider. They eat rattlesnakes.

I think we all secretly (or not so secretly) sympathize with Gunther here. It’s kinda depressing to see the coyote lose time after time….
