Remember an online story where a guy went to a department store to get his wife a nice watch for her birthday. Asked saleslady if they had any that weren’t covered with jewels, since that wasn’t his wife’s style. She told him, “The Swatches are over there.” Guy walks out, goes to Tiffany’s and gets treated politely, and buys his wife a nice expensive platinum watch.

When I got engaged, I paid $700 for a 3/4 caret diamond ring. It had a small (carbon speck) flaw. I took it to another jeweler and it was appraised at about what I paid for it. The last time I had it appraised, it had an insurance value of around 6K…a good investment. My Bride was a much better one.
