LOL! I love that: “I have no good answers left.” :-) The only one is really the old standby: “Because I said so”

I’ve always hated that line, “Because I said so.” I like to have a reason why I should do something (I still do). Hearing that line makes me dig in my heels and refuse to move, or else to run in the opposite direction.

“If you do you’re cleaning the interior after school”… there’s a good answer. Of course I’ve had a minute to think about it.

That is why I almost always have a clean car and never allowed eating in the car from the time the kids were very little. Any adults traveling with me are apprised of the “rules” before we start out. As my 20 year-old daughter once told someone that was going to be traveling with me, “You are allowed to have water in the car, as long as it is self contained when not in use”. They can be taught… After all, I don’t drive my kitchen, why would I eat in my car?

Sometimes “because I said so” is a decent answer because the real answer may be something that a child can’t handle. Yes, there may be other ways to say it, but sometimes a child needs to respect what their parents say and believe that they have their best interests at heart. As an adult, you can question a decision because you have sense (hopefully), wisdom and experience to understand the actual answer. A child doesn’t have all of that, and should learn to accept that they don’t know everything yet.

My mother never had my best interests at heart and I have the physical scars to prove it. “Because I said so” is a lazy answer that never flew with me once she left - and deservedly so.

    Ha. This one’s really good.

It’s a miracle–I’m actually signing into GoComics to post a comment, rather than flag spam. (!)
