That’s not entirely true. Though I’ve not wanted to serve while working, now that I’m retired, I’d love to serve. But, it seems, alas, the courts don’t need me. Guess I’ll make another comment.
In ancient Greece, all men of age were required to serve in city government as a civic duty. Many men avoided serving by making up excuses. The root of the word used to describe such men survives to this day in our language. The word is “idiot.”
