I reread the first Nitrate story, and realised that the reason that Vitamin was wise to them was that they’d scammed a friend of his before. Then they tried to scam Vitamin’s co-actor and member of Dick Tracy’s extended family Agate Aggie (though the real reason that failed was that Stiletta got involved with her revenge scheme). Now, I don’t know if Bea Thorndike is a close acquaintance of Dick Tracy’s family, but here we go again. Seems like the Nitrates’ real weak spot is checking if there are connections with their former targets. Though admittedly, Public Domain picked the target this time.
I’ve visited Ford’s Theatre in DC. In the basement museum you’ll find Lincoln’s coat (sans the blood-stained pieces) on display, along with numerous artifacts such as Booth’s Derringer and the original door to Lincoln’s theatre box. The tour extends to the Peterson House, across the street, where the stricken President was carried. He died there the following morning, age 56. In 1992 the Chicago Historical Society hosted a marvelous collection of Lincoln artifacts and memorabilia. The opening of the exhibit was marked by author Gary Wills reading from his then new work, Lincoln at Gettysburg: The Words that Remade America (1992). I vividly recall looking through a pair of Lincoln’s glasses, which were safeguarded in such a way as to allow visitors this rare opportunity. My own memorabilia from that exhibit is a poster (framed and under glass) with six portraits of Lincoln: 1848, 1857, 1860, 1861, 1863 and 1865.

Maybe Ms. Thorndike should loose all her money and live as we Mt. Folks did as we too was scammed and coerced out of our lands by power mad and greedy corporations and people who ran them?
She may need to say "I may soon be scammed out of a lot of money from my blind needs, and not thinking it may indeed be too good to be true. "
And so the truth slowly oozes out of Auntie Bea Thorndike. While Junior himself may not be too up-to-speed on the phonautograph, I am willing to bet that Honeymoon will see that something is fishy and will report it to Pop-Pop with all due haste, enabling him to put two and two together and see the bigger puzzle picture. (This is working out pretty much as I had suggested it might, some days ago.)
Strictly non-essential aside: the Thorndike mansion, IMO, is not very impressive looking from the outside. Inside is better, no small thanks to fastidious Jenkins, I imagine….
