Actually, our 2d Amendment has worked in our favor. After the breakup of the USSR, the bigwig generals said they never thought about actually trying to invade and occupy America. Too many guns in private hands and the propensity of Americans to use them. The Japanese said much the same in WWII, about their being a gun behind every blade of grass in America. Even today, the sensationalist media warn the rest of the world that we are not safe to play with as they recount gun crime incidents (and forget that violent crime halved as American private firearms doubled between 1990 and 2016) in ghoulish glee. Still, the media’s rush for ratings and the heck with the facts has worked in our favor. Nobody else on the planet would dream of trying to invade and occupy the US. They all see us as ruthless cowboy murderers completely consumed with blood lust and fascinated by shiny guns.
