@drdoni, good point! Actually, the controversy is over whether those who have had sex-change operations can go into the bathrooms for the sex they now appear to be. Opponents to this are forcing those people to go into bathrooms where they look like they shouldn’t be there.
i suspect if looked at more closely, there would be a technical distinction – such as the funding Obama threatened to cut was more closely tied to the directive, while Trump’s threat is more arbitrary in that if a city was given funds to enforce immigration laws and then that funding was threatened, it would make sense. But in general, I do agree there is the hint of hypocrisy that is good to be aware of. That said, most the the sanctuary cities pay more in federal taxes than they get back, so kind of like a Republican federal administration steeling with Democrat cities because those cities refuse to enforce an unfunded mandate to arrest and detain people possibly guilty of a misdemeanor that also has negative implications for the cities’ ability to enforce other law that are probably more important, such as drug dealing and violent crimes.
The majority of public restrooms are easy to convert to unisex – some already are and many more have one space for women and one space for men which could both be changed to unisex. Other restrooms should provide enough privacy between stalls so that this should not be an issue. I take my grandson in the ladies’ room all the time. Or should I let a 4 year old go into the men’s room by himself?
