Outside agitators… that phrase ring a bell? No, I suppose not. Easier to blame the many for the crimes of the few. Just like you all do with muslims, furriners, etc etc etc ad nausea…

However, Berkeley and other schools have a history of protesting and shutting down right wing speech. I think THAT is deplorable. While I would never attend an Ann Coulter event of any kind, she has the right to be heard FIRST, THEN mocked for her idiocy. If Obama was forced to cancel, they would be all over saying suppression.I’m tired of coddling and “trigger warnings!” GROW UP!And it’s interesting that the right almost invariably is the group that cites “outside agitators.”

Sadly, it is not just Berkley. So many schools allow petulant grown children to protest any commencement speaker, or guest lecturer that just might have a divergent opinion from the faculty and a few nut job students.

Just wait until these pampered precious social justice warriors hit the real world and have to work for a living and engage with people different than them and that hold divergent opinions.

No school wants a repeat of Kent State, or even UC Davis. Not only do they wish to avoid deaths, they wish to avoid harm or outrages (as at Davis) to students who, even in state funded schools, represent income from parents and alumni.

But after the black hooded thugs trashed part of the campus earlier, when that creep from the right was supposed to speak, one could understand a reluctance by the administration to set up a similar situation. They did, however, reverse themselves. How they hope to avoid the thugs showing up again, I don’t know. These thugs do not believe in peaceful dissent.

They are, however, a minority even at demonstrations against right wing agitators. (And yes, that is what your right wing creeps are doing. They are agitating against the left. See the titles of Coulter’s books.)

This is a tempered response to what the Insane White House has been trying to pull. Patriots resist tyrants. Sheep pretend nothing is wrong and the protesters are the ones causing trouble. If it were up to Anderson, we’d be marching in red coats right now.

What the Berkeley administrators first proposed was that Coulter’s speech be re-scheduled, not canceled.

UC Berkeley administrators have proposed rescheduling Ann Coulter’s campus appearance for September, citing safety concerns.

Coulter was originally scheduled to deliver a talk on immigration April 27 after Berkeley College Republicans and BridgeUSA, formerly known as BridgeCal, invited her to speak on campus in March. But in an email sent to BCR on Tuesday night, campus Vice Chancellors Scott Biddy and Stephen Sutton said UCPD and the Division of Student Affairs could not find a safe and suitable location for the event.

“We regret this outcome — especially given our unqualified support for our students’ right to bring speakers of their choosing to the University, and our deep commitment to the values and principles embedded in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution,” the email stated.

UCPD had learned that certain groups responsible for the violence that played out at the Milo Yiannopoulos event in February and the Free Speech Rally in Berkeley on Saturday planned to make an appearance at the upcoming Coulter talk, according to an email from UC Berkeley spokesperson Dan Mogulof.

Conservative author Ann Coulter has been reinvited to speak at UC Berkeley on May 2 — an announcement made a day after news broke that the campus had postponed the event because of active security threats.

Chancellor Nicholas Dirks announced at a press conference Thursday that the campus had found an appropriate location for the event to go on despite a Tuesday announcement that the event would likely be rescheduled for September. Dirks said the campus location will be disclosed once the campus has finalized the event with the Berkeley College Republicans and BridgeUSA, the student groups that originally invited Coulter to speak.

The Daily Californian April 20, 2017http://www.dailycal.org/2017/04/20/uc-berkeley-reinvites-ann-coulter-campus-day-announcing-postponement/

“Berkeley has become a focal point for these demonstrations recently,” said UCPD Capt. Alex Yao at the press conference. “The safety of our community is a high priority for us.”

Yao added that UCPD’s approach and staffing for the upcoming Coulter event will be different than for the Yiannopoulos event, but he declined to go into specifics.

But here you go righties! your young members party of law and order says this:

BCR spokesperson Naweed Tahmas said the organization had “no intention” of working with campus administrators with regards to the scheduled May 2 event.

“We’re still moving forward with Coulter coming on April 27, no matter how many times the campus whines about it,” Tahmas said.

Yep, that makes perfect sense… to idiots.

Once again Baslim gets it right. Facts matter, interventor. Bringing the toxic Coulter to the campus without regard for the likely consequences is just stupid. In this case, it seems reasonable for the administration to want to find the right venue. The conservative students who invited her want to stir things up and the students who object to her hate speech have responded in kind.

It is up the the administration to sort it out and keep both sides safe by being careful. It is difficult to tamp down emotions when Coulter spews her bile. The right gets all worked up with their toxic crap, and the students react to that. Unfortunately for conservatives, facts and evidence often have a"liberal" bias.

And, by the way, this is also why acadamics are more often than not progressives. You can rant and rave all you want about facts, but facts don’t care if you believe them or not. That’s why science and evidence-based thinking work. That’s why magical thinking and religion are so alluring. When you don’t like the facts and ignore them as irrelevant, they will come back and bite you in the rear. But if you concoct a reality that doesn’t comport with the facts, conservatives merely fall back on magical thinking in an attempt to make sense of the world. Evidence-based thinking is in seriously short supply among conservatives. Sorry, that’s just a fact.

Oh, and I used to be a libertarian in my youth (Reason magazine was a favorite publication in those days). Then when I saw libertarianism was obviously deeply flawed, I became a conservative. Then that was misaligned with reality, so I became a republican, then a moderate republican, until I grew up. That was when I became a progressive. Over the years, I paid attention to the facts, and my views have changed in an attempt to align myself to factual evidence.

Some people are really very ignorant of the English language:

Agitator: noun1.a person who stirs up others in order to upset the status quo and further a political, social, or other cause:

Notice the word violently does not appear in the definition.
